A rare color photo of the Ka'aba, Islams most sacred site in the early 1900s.
The buildings close to the Ka'aba had to be removed because the number of Muslims visiting Makkah became so large that tawaf (circling) around the Kaaba became almost impossible.
This era was a time of extreme madhab (school of legal thought) arrogance and difference, and thus there were actually four salahs that would take place at the same time. One for each madhab. You can see the small mihrabs for each of the madhabs in this picture.
